External Expanding Cast Iron Laps & Lap Holders

External Lapping Tools should be shorter than the length of the part being lapped. When lapping a cylindrical part with lands, the external lap should be long enough to span as many lands as possible to prevent rolling edges. Standard external laps are manufactured slightly over size to allow for clearance and can be tightened to the appropriate diameter with the external lap holder.

Lap Pullers are used to remove the lap from the arbor or to retract the lap when over-expanded.
